As part of our project we have been focusing on the relationship between the town and power plant and different perspectives. But at this moment with the imminent closure of Didcot A, we have also been doing some thinking back to the pre-opening reputation. From one angle it was going to be a major employer, and deliver fairly secure electricity to the area (which had not been the case with the old Oxford Power station). But clearly it was going to have a huge visual impact on the location.
In the article below Dr Sharp says these "Things" will "crush into utter insignificance everything within all but distant sight of them."
